FTTP ONT able to use power extension lead?

Go to solution

Hi Folks,

I have FTTP install tomorrow and am currently looking at how the ONT will be powered. They need 2 sockets. however, there are only 2 double sockets in my living room and only one of them is a viable option (the other has a double french door in the way of where the cabling will come from).

Stage 1 is complete so I know where the fibre comes up from the underground ducting. It comes up on the left exterior wall of my living room. I am looking at the ONT on the back wall away from my sockets (8 meters from where the fibre is brought up via underground ducts).

Due to my TV, blu ray player, media pc etc all being there, I have to use a surge protected 6 ways power extension lead. There is no way for me to use both main sockets for the ONT as then I'd have nothing to supply power to everything else.

The other double socket in the room is free but it has a big double french door in the way and the fibre would need to navigate it to reach that empty socket which no one would want to do.

Is it okay to use an extension lead for power?
