it may be you splitter has given up after all this time surprised it has lasted this long maybe your connection will improve when you use a proper filter

It was actually a friend who helped set up my broadband connection years ago. I've had no trouble until now!!
Do you have a microfilter you can use instead, if so unplug that splitter, and plug the microfilter in.
your phone socket is not same as does not have split front face you should have received a filter when you got you hub
if it is the splitter that is causing your problems then you will probably be charged £85 for engineer visit
That is not just a splitter. It is also a filter however it's that old (I haven't seen one for over 10 yrs) It's almost guaranteed to have failed.
