Fiber Broadband dropping 15 to 20 times a day

Here we are again. After a very painful house move where we got the runaround on our new service in June, just three months later we again have issues.

We moved house on the 1st June from a Fiber area with 60mb Infinity 2 package to an ADSL only area with 3mb (they told me 6). On the 21st June of June a new Fiber cabinet went live (very quietly, no fanfare) and I upgraded to Fiber on the 23rd June - probably one of the first in the area to do so. Initially things were good enough. We were getting around 35mb and things were fairly stable with a quoted guaranteed minimum speed of 27mb so I was fairly happy. What was a puzzle was I was only offered the slower of the two Fiber options. I was happy to pay for the faster package for the upload speed and add ons but was told I wasn't getting that. 

Over the last three weeks we have experienced around 10 to 20 drop outs a day. The VDSL drops for a couple of minutes then recovers. I checked the phone line during the drop outs and the line is active with a dial tone so the line is not intermittent, only the VDSL. The phone is normally not connected. We have a 5C master socket and no extension wiring whatsoever. DLM has dropped my line to 20mb due to all the drops. Nothing whatsoever has changed within the property. 

I reported the issue last week and explained the all the details. The Support agent checked the line and saw that we were indeed having repeated drop outs throughout a 24 hour period. I explained the phone line remains active during the drop outs and only the VDSL carrier drops. I also explained I was using a Billion modem/router and I suggested that I swap out my router/modem with the BT supplied Home Hub 6 for a few days to eliminate my equipment as a potential cause. I did this and we had exactly the same number of drop outs over the next few days.

I got a call from BT on Sunday saying they needed to send out an Openreach engineer to diagnose the problem. we agreed Tuesday am. He has just left my premise unable to help.

No we get to the real problem - for some bizarre reason the fault was logged by BT support as a phone line problem not a Broadband issue. I checked the fault status and clearly states phone line. That being the case my Openreach engineer explained he couldn't dignose the fault as he wasn't a Broadband engineer only a line engineer. Not only that he was given the wrong contact details by BT and claimed that BT's guarenteed minimum for my property was only 16mb. He also showed me my line speed is 38mb down 8mb up which fits with the 35mb down I was getting before the VDSL drops started happening. He also said I was 55mb at the cabinet. 

Obviously he found no fault inside the property but nor did he find any sort of fault. The phone line is up and always is as I already explained to BT but still we have loss of VDSL up to 20 times a day. Bear in mind this VDSL disruption has started only during the last three weeks when engineers have been busy connecting new dozens of new Fiber customers on a brand new cabinet in a previously copper only area. The cabinet will have opened repeatedly and lines tapped accross. My engineer stated that the cabinet was already at capacity after only 

1. Why did BT log my fault as a phone line issue when all the fault reporting suggests it's clearly a Fiber Broadband issue?

2. Why did BT send out a line engineer who wouldn't be able to diagnose a brodband fault?

3. If I am charged for this engineer visit I will complain to offcom. If BT are going to charge me for an engineer visit they really need to send out an engineer with the appropriate skill set and equipment to solve the issue repoted, not one 

4. I was promised 27mb minimum not 16mb so a quick complaint to ofcom may settle that discrepancy.

5. Until 3 weeks ago I had 35mb down and would like a return to that service ASAP.

If a moderator could help I would greatly appreciate it. I work from home and cannot lose my connection during important WebEx confreneces with people on 3 continents multiple time a day.

as you did previously can you post stats from your router - billion or hh6

can you post results from dslchecker showing estimated speeds for your phone number

I appreciate you have a 5c master but have you tried the test socket with a filter to see if that helps?

Interestingly running a wholesale speed test today shows this:

Capture.JPGPrevious tests last week showed download speed of 20mb due to  drops / DLM. 

Incidentally the line engineer ran his test through the Master Socket and no fault found was the result. The drop outs occurred regularly with both the Billion router and for the last 4 days the HH6. Nothing else changed. The engineer claimed not to have done anything at all this morning as he could find no fault inside or outside the property. So, between last night and 8.45 this morning two miracles occurred; 1. the DLM was reset and my profile is back up to 34mb and 2. the Amphenol connector that was hanging off the DSLAM was quietly plugged back in properly - only it wasn't because I have had two dops whilst writing this.

Whilst writing this following two more drops my router stats have gone down from:

 
approx 7Mbps up / 34Mbps down (unfortunatley didn't save the data and can't recall the SNR or attenuation.)

Intrestingly, drops were chronic between 11.30am and 2pm with service down for periods between 5 and 30 minutes at a time. since 14.19.30 no drops.

So it wasn't my line, my master socket, either of my two routers, or any extension wiring (that isn't installed) inside my property.

My neighbour (there are only 12 properties on our bundle from the cabinet) had real problems getting his Fibre installed this week. It took two broadband engineers two days (yesterday and today) to get his HH6 working at all. He said he passed by the cabinet this afternoon and there was a queue of three Openreach engineers awaiting thier turn to get into the DSLAM box. 

One of them must have been on form. So far so good.

It still leaves three weeks of intermittent service, one line engineer's wasted time, my wasted time, and a potential bill for £129.50 for the wrong type of engineer booked to look for the wrong type of fault.
