Fibre 1 (FTTC) - Telephone problem?

Go to solution

Hello,

Today I was upgraded from "Broadband Unlimited" to "Fibre 1".

It seems to work, however the engineer told me that the internet is OK,

but that there is a fault when telephone is connected, and this could degrade the performance.

Please see the image for my setup. I can't see a problem. What do you think? Thanks!

that looks ok  do you hear any noise if you dial 17070 option 2?

Thanks for your answer.

I tried 17070 option 2 and I would say it is quite quiet.

Very faintly in the background I hear a deeper tone, which is periodically interrupted

by a higher tone, but all this can barely be heard.

with a corded phone it should be silent and any noise can be a problem  with a cordless then a dull hum is often heard

As shown on the image both are corded phones.

I made the test with phone 1, now I also made it with phone 2.

On phone 1 (connected with 5m cable), as mentioned, I can hear this very, very low sound – only when I press the handset against my ear!

On phone 2 (connected with 2m cable) I can hear absolutely nothing.

I assume that what I hear on phone 1 is some crossfeed from other (computer) cables which are located near the phone cable, so I don't think it's something coming via the phone socket. The fact that phone 2 is totally silent confirms this.

So why could the engineer have seen a fault when telephone had been connected...?

Have you tried changing the filter? How is this fault manifesting itself in day to day usage?

Thanks for asking back.

Nothing has ever been manifesting in day to day usage under "Broadband Unlimited".

It's just that the engineer said today, that he gets a "fault" displayed when telephone is connected.

I didn't change anything, both phones worked (and work) fine on an original BT filter.

This is weird...

please can you post the stats from your router (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser) and if  HH5 then go to troubleshooting then helpdesk and if HH6/SH2 then advanced settings then technical log information .

enter your phone number and post results  remember to delete number   https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL

see if new stats look ok
