Thank you both!

One thing I noticed:  In the technical log it says "BT Wi-fi: Activated".

Again? I had opted out and this was confirmed via Home>Status page:

"BT Wi-fi status: Not active"

Which one is right?

The upgrade and new hub has probably re-activated btwifi. Wait a few days then opt out again. If still says you are opted out then opt in wait 24hrs then opt out and that should fix it

You mean it could have re-activated BT Wi-fi, even though I'm still opted out?

And even though wireless is turned off:

Or could it be that it did opt me in again without asking me?

Turning the hub wifi off is nothing to do with btwifi.  The upgrade could more than likely opted you back in to btwifi
