Re: Fibre Broadband Outages - Help Needed

Go to solution

So far I have:

bought new Smart Hub and cables,

engineer ok'd cable from external drop wire junction to master socket.

engineer changed master socket for Openreach Mk4

so it's fair to say the problem is external and Openreach's

it is breezy today and the crackling heard on the queit line test kind of cycles between awful and moderate. I still suspect the drop wire as I have for years. I did voice that to the engineer but was dismissed.

BT have requested the engineer check tge drop wire at the pole on Tuesday but he won't do that as and i've no idea what this means but he said it was a 'D' pole so couldn't climb it.

thank you so much for your help you wonderful guys and girls.

"D" = Decayed pole, not safe to climb, so they have to use an elevating platform instead, which can take a while to organise.

Thanks for the info. Wouldn't want anyone risk life or limb for broadband. I'll wait for the engineer to come who will organise the rest I guess

If the pole is badly decayed, then its probably only the dropwires to the houses that is keeping it up.

Re: Fibre Broadband Outages - Help Needed

So yesterday the noise on my line was truly awful.

today, silent!

that isn't gonna help the BT Engineer diagnose the fault tomorrow

They are going to have to check the connections to the DP at the top of the pole, an probably change the dropwire as well, assuming they are bringing a hoist.

Re: Fibre Broadband Outages - Help Needed

Not had an update or visit from engineer so I had a short online chat with BT. The online operator contacted Openreach who says an engineer is in the exchange and has found a fault. He may ir may not need to visit my premises.

My suspicion is still the drop wire but I shall wait and see. No idea if they even contact one with an update or not.

So the engineer arrived and it seems the information I was given during the online chat was politely put a complete fib.

waiting on a hoist to install a new drop wire right now.
