Fibre available, cabinet between 500m away but being told it is out of range.

Hi there,

This is a saga stretching over a year now - and BT just aren't responding to me, with the specialist management team promising the 'fibre team' will get back to me.

Long story short - I have located my cabinet, confirmed with several openreach engineers that I should be able to get fibre, and checked their cable-route maps to see if I was within range - which I am well within.

For some reason, on BT's system it says we are too far away - 5000m, when in reality it is 500m. Everyone I have dealt with has been confused, and we have all agreed this is a typo on the system. However I am just going round in circles and getting automated/scripted messages.

I'd love to get this sorted out soon - so any and all advice about how I should approach this would be great.

Many thanks,

Liam

Re: Fibre available, cabinet between 500m away but being told it is out of range.

Thought I would add some more details.

The line on our street is aluminium, not copper. Several engineers that have worked on line issues for me have stated this.

The cabinet I am hooked up to is right outside of the local exchange, and has had fibre available since something like 2014 if memory serves me.

Here are the cabinet details:

Again - thanks for your help and if there is anything else I can provide please let me know.

Re: Fibre available, cabinet between 500m away but being told it is out of range.

@LDoggett

Based on the screenshot you provided that state's FTTP on Demand.   FTTP is Fibre to the Premises and on demand means the equipment has not been put in and if you wanted it you would have to pay very substantial install costs.

If standard fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) was available it would look as below:

I hope this helps.

Kind Regards

Re: Fibre available, cabinet between 500m away but being told it is out of range.

Thank you both for your responses.

There is another cabinet close to my house, with stickers all over it advertising superfast fibre. How would I go about asking to connect to this cabinet instead, and would that solve anything?

This is the cabinet here: https://www.telecom-tariffs.co.uk/codelook.htm?xid=1268803&postcodeloc=10346&cabinet=P12

Thanks again for your help!

Openreach will not move you onto a different cabinet.

See link and question

"There's another cabinet near me that's already accepting orders. Can I get fibre broadband from there instead?"
