Fibre with Halo 1 - change from 55/10 to 80/20

Hi, wondering if anybody can help regarding the sync profile for my FTTC connection.

I am currently on Fibre with Halo 1 and my router (BT Smart Hub) is connecting at 55mbps downstream and 10mbps upstream. According to both the Openreach availability checker and the router stats, my line is cable of a potential 60.5mbps download and 16mbps upload (see attached screenshots). I have tried to raise this over the phone with customer support however they seem to struggle with the concept of the connection being provisioned at 55/10 rather than 80/20.

Is it possible to request a change to the 80/20 speed tier? I'm aware the difference in download isn't going to be huge but it is the upload speed that I want to take advantage of for home working amongst other things. Other providers are letting me place an order for an 80/20 FTTC product, but BT for some reason don't seem to be able to.

Any help would be appreciated!Screenshot 2020-11-25 at 15.37.25.pngScreenshot 2020-11-25 at 15.50.46.png

Re: Fibre with Halo 1 - change from 55/10 to 80/20

You would need to upgrade to Fibre 2 80/20 even though with an attainable speed of 56mb you are not going to get any faster down speed but should get faster up speed

you can phone options team on 0800800030.  They should worn you that your down speed won't improve by upgrading and paying extra cost

Re: Fibre with Halo 1 - change from 55/10 to 80/20

Looking at the chart, I doubt that the upstream would be much better, as its determined by the upper frequency performance of the cable pair.

The max data rate is showing as 16.61Mbs, so your actual upload speed is not going to get anywhere near 20Mbs.

But 16M is a 60% increase on 10M, well worth it if upload speed is important.

Re: Fibre with Halo 1 - change from 55/10 to 80/20

Thanks for the replies, yes it's the jump from 10mbps to 16mbps upload that I'm really after, fully aware that I'm not going to see any benefit on the download side.

The options team aren't able to place me on fibre 2, it's not showing as available for them. Weirdly it is letting me upgrade online for £58.99/month but lists the upload at 7-9mbps - the same as fibre with halo 1 (is fibre 2 definitely the 80/20 product?)

Re: Fibre with Halo 1 - change from 55/10 to 80/20

I guess fibre 2 isn't available to the option team to avoid them being accused of mis-selling an unsuitable product due to the predicted speeds. Seems odd that it is available online though.

Fibre 2 is the 80/20 product and the upload figures will be the pessimistic view from the checker rather than the figure you can see on the hub.

Re: Fibre with Halo 1 - change from 55/10 to 80/20

Halo comes with the same 80/20 SLT as Fibre 2, so you don't need to change packages for the 80/20 SLT, Halo can be provisioned on 40/10 and 55/10 if the line doesn't support anything faster, it could be your line won't go over 55/10 and that is why that SLT was chosen.
Ring BT and ask for the 'Easy Assist' team, they'll be able to raise an order manually and change the SLT for you if it would benefit you.

Re: Fibre with Halo 1 - change from 55/10 to 80/20

Thanks for this, I spoke to the easy assist team and requested a change of SLT to 80/20, however they were unable to place an order as their systems show the line as not capable of any further speed. It was worth a try anyhow. Will have to wait patiently for FTTP to become available!
