Fibre with old Hub

Help!

I have a Smart Hub - Type B .

I just had my connection upgraded to Fibre today but the OpenReach engineer told me I needed a new Hub so walked away without connecting it to the Hub.

BT say I don’t need a new Hub - that this one should work.

I’ve put the Ethernet cable between LAN1 and the modem but it’s all purple flashing lights. What can I try?!

Re: Fibre with old Hub

Does the Hub have a Red WAN port if not try plugging into Yellow 4th Ethernet port.

Details here may help - https://www.bt.com/help/broadband/getting-set-up/how-to-set-up/bt-smart-hub-2/connection-modem

From a little more research it appears the Smart Hub does have a specific FTTP variant but it maybe a togglable option within the advanced setup but I don't know enough personally to confirm. It maybe you have the G.FAST compatible model not the FTTP one.

@RDH

You need a Smart Hub 2, as that has a WAN port. Ring BT and ask for one.

Re: Fibre with old Hub

Hello. Thank you.

It doesn’t have a red WAN port.

Tried LAN 4 but still purple flashing.

So frustrating!

Re: Fibre with old Hub

There is one on order but I’m told (by BT!) this one should work too.

Re: Fibre with old Hub

To clarify, do you have a Smart hub(hub6) or a Smart Hub2?

Only the Smart hub 2 can configure LAN port 4 as a WAN port.

Re: Fibre with old Hub

It just says "Smart Hub - Type B" on the back.

I've been into the Admin and can't find any mention of FTTP toggles.

Re: Fibre with old Hub

BT staff as usual are clueless, that hub won't work with full fibre. You need a Smart Hub2.
