I assumed this was an offer on my account and so it was available to me.
Now I get a letter that this is a mistake
Can BT do that - as this was supposed to be a 12 month contract ? As a consumer I cannot cancel the contract but BT can by giving me notice and without any penalties?
I also spoke to numerous people to confirm if this indeed free on chat and I was told that I wont be paying anything !!!
Is this acceptable ?

Yes I did take the free contract.
I have screenshots of these if you see my original post.
I also chatted numerus times with Bt support who confirmed that I am on a 12 month contract with no payment required.
I also got an email confirmation with Package - Broadband and Calls
Your contract is for: 12 months starting on 17 Apr 2018
The last email I got was
Your order number is: AJMDxxxxxx
Your new service is ready
I can also track this in my account and see that the order is complete.
It was a glitch and the letter is correct, I've also seen a similar thread on other forums, again they got the letter.
Sometimes when things are too good to be true, they are.

I've been having trouble recontracting because the account shows up as having a BT employee discount which means free. I can safely say that I don't get the discount but it is a pain to recontract, now on my second go with a case manager involvement this time.
