Frequent drop outs on FTTP - LCP down

Hi all

I've been having issues with my FTTP (Fibre 500) for a few weeks now, and have had a case open since 21st August with BT / Openreach that still isn't resolved. Openreach have marked the fault as fixed a number of times, and haven't shown up for at least three appointments. I'm almost certain the issues lies between the property and the exchange so I don't think there's anything I can do but wait for Openreach, but I wondered if anyone else had had similar issues and managed to get a fix / what the cause was?

My speed slows down and then eventually stops completely. The ONT box will go from three green lights (power, PON and LAN) to flashing green PON to red LOS. Hub alternates between orange and purple. In the logs, there doesn't seem to be anything obvious happening before the disconnect:

There also doesn't seem to be a pattern to when it goes down, or how long it's down for, how long it's up for in between outages. It can be a few minutes to a couple of hours, slightly more often during the day than the night. Rebooting the hub, ONT, or both makes no difference.

21/08/2021 - 8 outages lasting 1:13:05
22/08/2021 - 8 outages lasting 2:00:27
23/08/2021 - 2 outages lasting 1:54:45
24/08/2021 - 7 outages lasting 5:47:36
25/08/2021 - 2 outages lasting 1:50:01
26/08/2021 - 2 outages lasting 1:42:12
27/08/2021 - 05/09/2021 - no outages
06/09/2021 - 12 outages lasting 5:03:37
07/09/2021 - 5 outages lasting 2:29:22

Re: Frequent drop outs on FTTP - LCP down

Chances are that your particular ‘connection’ ( ONT, CSP, CBT port , Splitter leg ) has a high loss somewhere , and your ONT is effectively hanging into a sync by a thread, loses sync periodically (LOS) and comes back, and maintains sync for a while before failing again .
The issue could be where the Ezibend is plugged into the ONT ( needs a clean ) or a poor connection at the CBT ( maybe not fully tightened) or a dodgy splice at the splitter or CSP.
TBH you would think OR should send someone out to check the light ( power ) level at the ONT , and take it from there, anything dodgy from the splitter back towards the OLT is likely to be addressed pretty quickly as it would probably affect the entire PON and all users on it.
It’s also possible it’s the ONT itself.
