Fttp installation question

We are having fttp installed next week, we currently have our landline supplied from pylon which comes around the house and enters into a room which then has a wire from the small box that goes neatly round the door edges and onto the landing where the master box is and where the router is located. This line is staying in and we are having the fttp line as a separate line so my question is will this cable be able to do the same thing as in enter the house from the pylon in this same room, box outside drill through the wall box inside then cable from the box to the landing to connect to the router there? As in the router doesn’t have to be in the same room as where the cable enters the house?
thanks.

Re: Fttp installation question

The fibre will connect to the optical ONT at a location agreed between yourself and the engineer. The engineer will co-locate the hub with the ONT. If you require the hub to be in a different location, you will need to run a Cat5E Ethernet cable from the ONT to the hub's required location. That is your responsibility to do.

Re: Fttp installation question

Ok so it’s just a regular cat 5e cable from the internal box to the router? Yeah router definitely needs to be on the landing as that is the central point best for WiFi and also the sky booster box for sky q works best there too.

Re: Fttp installation question

They said I didn’t have to switch to dv as we already have an active line, so we are keeping the line as it is that will work with all our existing handsets and having the fibre cable installed purely for internet.

Re: Fttp installation question

If Wifi in the centre of the house is an important issue for you why have you not requested BT's Wifi Discs?  If you use those they can cover the parts of the house that the Hub doesn't reach.

Just a thought.

Re: Fttp installation question

Make sure you check this, I wasn’t given the option and was told that if I wanted to keep a landline it would be digital voice.

Re: Fttp installation question

Yes they confirmed it wasn’t forcing the move to digital voice as we had the existing line and could just keep that as it is and have the fibre cable purely for internet.

As for the WiFi, it’s more as the sky booster box for sky q is hardwired to the router where it is now, and the sky q has been perfect with this setup, it works great as it’s the central location for all the other sky q boxes.
