Thanks for all the help.
There is no 'upgraded model'.
He may be sent the latest EE Smarthub.
You will no doubt be asked to return your "old" BT Smarthub. Whwn you send it back make sure you keep a copy of your Proof of Posting and if possible take a photograph of it in case you somehow lose the paper copy.
Possibly, either way the Smart Hub2 is perfectly capable unless faulty so no requirement for an 'upgraded' Hub.
I agree but I think the OP must have a Smarthub and not a Smarthub2 as he stated that his Smarthub did not have a dedicated WAN port and the engineer had to change the setting for port 4.
EDIT: I have just re read what the OP posted and I was mistaken. He did say that he had a Smarthub 2 and not a Smarthub as I have posted.
I am aware about the Ethernet port needing changed to WAN if it is not already set as a WAN port but you may be correct about the SM2 not having a dedicated WAN port. I just assumed, possibly incorrectly that this was now the case because of what the engineer had said to the OP.
In message 5 he says he has SH2.
As stated , if the existing hub were incompatible then a new one would be sent out as part of the upgrade to FTTP , regardless of it being ‘upgraded’ model or not , it’s a reasonable course of action to take as it’s an item to tick off the suspect list, hopefully this will fix the problem, indicating it was faulty rather than incompatible.
FWIW , my relatively new SH2 doesn’t have a WAN port as such , just a switchable one from LAN to WAN and although I don't have FTTP availability, should I get that upgrade path at some point , I won’t need a replacement router .

I was editing my post while you posted.
