Further question on Fibre Broadband Availability (I've read DeanM's comments)

My local exchange (Merthyr Tydfil) and street cabinet have both been fibre enabled for over a month.  BT Openreach and BT Broadband sites both confirm that BT is 'Accepting Orders' but whenever I try to place an order, I'm told that I cannot.

Yesterday I spoke to a BT Openreach Engineer and was told that FTTC had been enabled for over a month and that I should be able to order.

I've tried to discover what the situation is but cannot.  Both BT Openreach and BT Broadband sites steadfastedly refuse to provide information.  Is it not possible for me to speak with someone who is able to tell me what the current situation is?

Re: Further question on Fibre Broadband Availability (I've read DeanM's comments)

Hi Woodford,

What PCP (cabinet) is it ?

Do you know roughtly how far away you are from the cabinet?

Please can you copy and paste all of the results from http://dslchecher.bt.com/adsl into a post. Though remember to edit out your landline number before pressing post.

If you don't have a BT Wholesale reconisable number then try http://dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/ADSLChecker.AddressOutput

Remember that even if the Merthyr Tydfil exchange is AO for Fibre broadband that your PCP (cabinet) will also need to be upgraded with a FTTC DSLAM cabinet before it may be avaiolable to you. Not all PCPs will be upgraded with a FTTC DSLAM cabinet and it may take some time for Superfast-Cymru to install and activate all DSLAM cabinet, so therefore one area of Merthyr Tydfil  will have fibre broadband before other areas of Merthyr.

Re: Further question on Fibre Broadband Availability (I've read DeanM's comments)

Hi,

Firstly thanks for the reply.

The data shown on the links just confirms my present situation ie. Cabinet 24 - I can receive broadband at an indicative speed which is about right.  It's hard to believe that there is no-one at BT with whom I can speak to ascertain if and when I can get Superfast Broadband.  The cabinet is some 300m from my home.

The data you asked for is as follows:

BT BROADBAND AVAILABILITY CHECKER
Telephone Number xxxxxxxxxxx on Exchange MERTHYR TYDFIL is served by Cabinet 24

Featured ProductsDownstream Line Rate(Mbps)Upstream Line Rate(Mbps)Downstream Range(Mbps)Availability Date
WBC ADSL 2+Up to 2--1.5 to 4Available
ADSL MaxUp to 1.5--1 to 3.5Available
WBC Fixed Rate2 ----Available
Fixed Rate2 ----Available
Other Offerings
Copper Multicast------Available

For all ADSL and WBC Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) services, the stable line rate will be determined during the first 10 days of service usage.

Throughput/download speeds will be less than line rates and can be affected by a number of factors within and external to BT's network, Communication Providers' networks and within customer premises.

The Stop Sale date for Datastream is from 30-Jun-2012; the Formal Retirement date for Datastream is from 30-Jun-2014. The Stop Sale date for IPstream is from 26-Jun-2014; the Formal Retirement date for IPstream is from 30-Jun-2014.

If the End User wishes to migrate from their current Broadband supplier they will need to contact them in the first instance to obtain a MAC (Migrations Authorisation) Code, and then contact their new Broadband supplier to arrange for the service to be migrated.

Note: Please note that postcode and address check results are indicative only. Most accurate results can be obtained from a telephone number check.

Thank you for your interest.

Re: Further question on Fibre Broadband Availability (I've read DeanM's comments)

The simple answer to your question is th BT Retail your provider like all other ISP's has no information on the fibre rollout, as the fibre network and its rollout is under Openreach's control and until Openreach release information to providers they like you have to wait the information is treat as business sensitive until cabinets go live

Hi again Woodford

As you can see from the list below you PCP (cabinet) is still being Installed/Commissioned with a FTTC DSLAM cabinet under the Superfast Cymru BDUK programme.

You can tweet Superfast cymru via @superfastcymru or email info@superfastcymru.com with your PCP number and exchange to see if there is any updates on the deployment of your DSLAM cabinet

As others have said BT Retail is just an ISP/CP and doesn't have any input or extra info on the deployment of fibre broadband.

Re: Further question on Fibre Broadband Availability (I've read DeanM's comments)

Hi all,

Many thanks for the replies which have been very useful.  I did not receive the list posted by jac which does clearly show the present situation.  After weeks of trying, I did eventually receive a reply from Bt which said that they expected the residential roll-out to be completed by Dec 31st 2914.

What confused the issue was that BT Broadband Engineer said that the relevant cabinet had already been activated over a month ago.

Anyway, I now know a target date and that satisfies my query.

Thanks again.

Correction - 2014 not 2914, although it seems like the latter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Further question on Fibre Broadband Availability (I've read DeanM's comments)

Hi again,

Can you please let me know how to access the list you sent on progress regarding commissioning of individual cabinets.  I can't seem to track anything via the BT Openreach site, the email link info@ etc does not work and I just don't understand Twitter.  Apologies for being dense.
