Re: HH5 constantly dropping connection and restarting

Then need to try test socket with filter and see if that helps stabilise connection.  Were your extension sockets wired to back of master front plate?

was quiet line test done with cordless phone as that often has dull hum. Corded should be quiet with no noise

Re: HH5 constantly dropping connection and restarting

Test it as shown here.

Testing from the test socket

As @imjolly has said, all extensions should be connected at the back of the faceplate, as shown here.

Extension wiring connection point

And finally a picture showing what to check for, on your wiring, as wires can be teed in elsewhere.

Has your Infinity Installation been wired correctly?

Re: HH5 constantly dropping connection and restarting

I had the same with the HH5. Changed to a Smart Hub and this no longer happens.

Re: HH5 constantly dropping connection and restarting

Looks very similar to this thread to me.

https://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity-Speed-Connection/HH5-Constant-Connection-drops/td-p/1770629/...

The rates in my HH5 event log have been fluctuating periodically as it presumably tries to work out what is possible?

Some examples from one end of the spectrum to the other:

DSL Link Up: Down Rate=76481Kbps Up Rate=15346Kbps; SNR Margin Down=3.2dB Up=5.7dB

DSL Link Up: Down Rate=77280Kbps Up Rate=15369Kbps; SNR Margin Down=3.3dB Up=5.8dB

The SNR Margins are quite different between Up and Down, is this normal?

Re: HH5 constantly dropping connection and restarting

Extensions definitely wired correctly and the faceplate sorted out my previous problems.

I think this has restarted around the time of the speed upgrades.

On the DSLChecker output it has much lower numbers in the Line Rate section, more like my previous limit of around 52Mbps.

What do these numbers tell us?

Re: HH5 constantly dropping connection and restarting

Connection is far better than the dslchecker and at present you are not 1 day without drop. Wonder how long it will last

was quiet line test with cordless phone instead of corded?

Re: HH5 constantly dropping connection and restarting

Its the low noise margin that is causing the disconnections. BT have given people more speed, by lowering the target noise margin, but that can make the line unstable, and cause disconnects.

As a matter of interest, are you using any powerline adapters or broadband extenders on your home network?

Re: HH5 constantly dropping connection and restarting

Quite line test was a corded phone (a BT Converse).

No powerline extenders, I have Cat 5e wired around the house and a patch panel and 8-port switch connected to the HH5.

Here's the most recent log of connection failures, I must be due one shortly.....
