Re: Here we go again

Go to solution
An HR fault occurs where two wires are joined using a crimp. Water ingress or corrosion for example causes the joint to develop high resistance. The current flowing when the phone is in use heats the joint and may cause it to lose resistance and start working again.

Re: Here we go again

neigbour who is a BT engineer came and checked everything out for me and said its 100% fault outside the property.

as each day goes by the speed drops even more. now 25 down and 5 up.

will just have to wait until wednesday for the arranged engineer to come and sort it out.

Re: Here we go again

update

phoneline fixed. a week certainly seemed a long time being without it.

took engineer over an hour. green box checked, up pole checked.

as far as i can tell the fault was underground so something changed on the telegraph pole and were back in action.

engineer said bt will reset my infinity2 so hopefully speeds should pick up within the burn in period.

at moment still 32 down and 5 up compared to before fault 52 down and 13 up.

thanks everyone for the advice on this thread.

The engineer probably did a "lift and shift" - switching you to a spare pair of wires at the pole.

They won't actually fix the cable until they run out of spare wires.

Re: Here we go again

just an update.

doorbell rang at 8.15am today (sunday) and it was an engineer to check my infinity.

this wasnt an aranged visit so was a bit surprised but happy in the end as the speeds will finally be fixed.

yesterday i was getting 35 down and 8 up

after 30 minutes everything was reset and im finally back to 51.93 down and 13.35 up

he said hopefully it will go back upto 52-54 over the next 10 days burn in but im quite happy if it stays at 51

finally thank you BT

now if only they could reimburs me for the 7 days without a phone as i had to stand down from emergency call in for major incidents while i had no landline.Smiley Tongue
