High noise margin

Hello, Ive been with BT for the last 2 years. My son is online gamer and since the 22/12/16 hes been complaining about connection issues causing his game to 'lag out'/connection loss, inconsistant download speeds causing slow browsing/downloading times. Ive been looking into it since untill I came across the high noise margin which apparently shouldnt be so high. Ive read up and ive left the router uptime for 3 days minimum. Ive tried the quiet line test which seemed totally fine with no fuzziness or crackling noises. I currently have the HH5, running weird upto my sons room straight into his pc. Would anyone be able to help me?

Welcome to this user forum.

 

Are you on Infinity 1 or Infinity 2 as your line is capable of 82Mbs, but Infinity 1 is restricted to 55Mbs, which is why there is a high noise margin, as there it lots of spare capacity.

 

Is the PC connected using an Ethernet cable?

Thanks for the reply Keith, im currently paying for Infinity1 but i have been getting speeds greater than 55Mbps. Yes my sons pc is connected via ethernet cable.

You are getting the maximum connection speed for infinity 1 there is no way that you can have a faster speed unless you moved to infinity 2

I havent got a problem with the download speed, its the inconsistency of the internet were recieving at the moment, my sons having problems having had new games for christmas that he cant play online, ive moved his pc and xbox downstairs next to the router and the problem still persists. Ive monitered ping and it seems to jump every so often but youve got to catch it at the right time. Ive tried disconnecting everything wirelessly and reconnecting them one by one incase any of the devices are interfearing but the problem still persists with the xbox/computer only connected.

You are best to connect by Ethernet for gaming. Wireless can be affected by wireless interference, and it is not necessarily from interference from other connected devices.

Could you please post the results from the BT Wholesale speed checker, including the further diagnostics.

 

This must be done with a computer connected to the home hub using an Ethernet cable.
