How to check if broadband speed is due to distance from exchange

I'm paying for 40mb infinity but I only get 21mb wired and 18 wireless.

I've always presumed this was due to the distance from the exchange but I'm eager to know if it could possibly be down to anything else e.g. **bleep** wiring, **bleep** socket etc.

Any ideas how I can check if my house is at fault for the less than 40mb speed?

From previous posts your dslchecker showed estimate 38/28mb so can you post the stats from your hub see what connection speed you have rather than download speed
