Infinity 1: Renewing contract led to speed DE-crease

Go to solution

A couple of years ago BT replaced the line to my house and my (Infinity) speed has been a great 36Mbps down, 8Mbps up - significantly better than all my neighbours (whose lines were not replaced). I was well-pleased.

When I recently re-contracted with BT, with the advertised possibility of even higher download speeds, the person I spoke to said that faster speeds (<52Mbps) were not guaranteed and when he looked up my postcode, suggested that I'd be lucky to get 30Mbps and seemed to doubt my existing faster speed. (true: my neighbours don't get 32Mbps - but I got about 36Mbps)

After I switched, the download speed has indeed never been faster than 30Mbps - it is always 29.98Mbps or thereabouts.

(Upload more or less stayed the same at 7/8Mbps).

Has someone "done something" to my line to cap it at 30Mbps?

Is there any way to get this un-done, so that I get my previous 36Mbps (or perhaps even faster)?

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

if you have a HH5 can you go to hub manager then trobleshooting then helpdesk and post 1-12

can you run btspeedtester and when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post results  must be done with wired connection  btspeedtester

can you enter your phone number and post results  remember to delete number wholesale FTTC check

try quiet line test   dial 17070 option 2  should be quiet and best with corded phone

Re: Infinity 1: Renewing contract led to speed DE-crease

As you can see from stats you have almost 32mb connection speed which is way better than estimated speed and attainable is 37mb. With a stable connection you may get slightly more speed and move nearer attainable but noise margin is about normal 6db so makes it less likely

As you speed is better than top estimate then BT won't help
