Infinity 2 Speed Reduced after switching to BT Smart Hub

Hi,

ive been on BT Infinity 2 for a few years now without any problems, and i was getting pretty much the full 76Mbps as the cabinet is literally at the end of my street, however i recently switched from my Netgear router to the BT Smart Hub with the intention of getting the BT TV package. After switching i noticed my speeds drop significantly so i tried plugging the Netgear router & BT Openreach Modem back in, but the speeds stayed the same

General browsing and online gaming still works fine, but when i download larger files, the difference is definitely noticable. I used to download in the regions of 7-8 MBps, however now it only goes at around 4-5 MBps. Before switching to the BT Smart Hub, i could download a movie from iTunes in around 10 minutes however last time i tried, it took over half an hour.

Re: Infinity 2 Speed Reduced after switching to BT Smart Hub

Try plugging your router into the hidden test socket that is revealed when you remove the bottom half of the split faceplate (2 screws) of your master socket. Only do this if you have a split faceplate. Do you have any extension sockets? Are there any wires connected to back of faceplate?

Post the router stats when plugged into test socket.

Try the BT Quiet Line Test (dial 17070 Opt 2), preferably with a corded phone, in the test socket with the router disconnected. If there is any noise, report to your landline provider as a voice fault (don't mention Broadband). Often sorting out voice faults will fix the Broadband as well.

Re: Infinity 2 Speed Reduced after switching to BT Smart Hub

Ok i opened up the faceplate and tried connecting to the test socker, the results are below.

There were no extension sockets or wires connected to the back of the faceplate.

I also tried the BT Quiet Line Test with my phone plugged in and there was no noise.

Here are the router stats when plugged into test socket.  (I tried to format it properly this time so its easier to read)

Re: Infinity 2 Speed Reduced after switching to BT Smart Hub

No reason you can’t use the Openreach mode and plug an Ethernet cable from that, into the red port on the smart hub.

That way the Modem will do the sync between the cab (which it seems it was better at, and ghe smart hub will be the router, and will work with BT TV.

Re: Infinity 2 Speed Reduced after switching to BT Smart Hub

Slight snag, the smart hub doesn't have a red WAN port. Smiley Wink

Re: Infinity 2 Speed Reduced after switching to BT Smart Hub

Yeah, it isn't that it's just slower at downloading larger files, the speed bounces up and down all the time ranging from 2MBps up to around 4 or 5 MBps.  When i had the Netgear router going into the Openreach Modem it was a solid 7-8MBps

Re: Infinity 2 Speed Reduced after switching to BT Smart Hub

Does the Netgear not support Multicast/IGMP snooping/IPTV?
