Infinity ping increase

I game a bit so low pings are important. My line used to provide 8-10ms to bbc.co.uk, it is now 16-17ms. The change started a few months ago around the time I was having some redecoration done which meant disconnections of the homehub 5 and removal of some internal extension cabling.

I have some old stats here, not sure exactly how old they are but for reference:

1. Product name: BT Home Hub
2. Serial number: +068543+NQ42832930
3. Firmware version: Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.204 (Type A) Last updated 20/01/15
4. Board version: BT Hub 5A
5. DSL uptime: 0 days, 13:33:29
6. Data rate: 6792 / 32661
7. Maximum data rate: 8369 / 38570
8. Noise margin: 6.0 / 6.5
9. Line attenuation: 27.8 / 26.0
10. Signal attenuation: 27.8 / 23.5
11. Data sent/received: 373.9 MB / 9.2 GB

I actually changed to a netgear d6400 before my problems started so i have some stats with that too:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 36710 kbps 7214 kbps
Line Attenuation D0( 20.9) D1( 59.7) D2( 89.4) dB U0( 8.8) U1( 48.9) U2(N/A) U3(N/A) U4(N/A) dB
Noise Margin D0( 5.9) D1( 6.0) D2(N/A) dB U0( 5.6) U1( 5.6) U2(N/A) U3(N/A) U4(N/A) dB

But after my ping went up I moved back to the hh5 for over a month in the hope that it may help things but it hasn't:

1. Product name:BT Home Hub
2. Serial number:+068543+NQ42832930
3. Firmware version:Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.204.1.11 (Type A) Last updated 07/10/16
4. Board version:BT Hub 5A
5. DSL uptime:0 days, 01:03:57
6. Data rate:7337 / 34171
7. Maximum data rate:7337 / 39660
8. Noise margin:5.9 / 6.1
9. Line attenuation:28.1 / 26.1
10. Signal attenuation:28.1 / 23.6
11. Data sent/received:115.6 MB / 1.0 GB

Quiet line test seems ok, i don't tend to use the phone at all so plugging the cheap phone I have resulted in slightly inconclusive results as shaking the thing would produce crackling... Other than that there was nothing other than a general analog sound down the line which I don't know if normal or caused by the phone or fault.

I ran the wholesale speedtest too but it is on my other machine, it didn't really tell me anything conclusive:
Download: 32.29

upload 6.51

ping 22

Then the extended test:

Download 31.18, max achievable speed 33.49, acceptable range: 23.45 - 33.49

Upload 6.7mbps, max achievable 10.

If I read things right my sync speeds are good compared to what BT expect, I wonder if a one off event caused interleaving to turn on and because sync has been good it was just never turned off? I don't think I can get proper stats on errors and interleaving without different equipment or am I wrong?

Re: Infinity ping increase

Agreed that interleaving is likely on.

Very little you can do to have it removed

Re: Infinity ping increase

The line was fine, presumably on fast path for over a year, it seems a one time event turned on interleaving and now it is stuck on. I don't understand why it hasn't tried to go back to fast path. Is there no way I can explain this to someone who would manually reset the line at least once?

Re: Infinity ping increase

You can't have the line reset unless an engineer visits and finds a fault.
