I have had BT infinity for quite a while now with a BT home hub 5 and haven't had any problems. Yesterday the internet and phoneline suddenly stopped working. When the internet cable is taken out of the socket/faceplate the phoneline will come back on but as soon as the internet cable is put back in it shuts everything down again. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Have you tried a different cable?
Does the phone work if you unplug the cable at the hub end rather than at the socket end. If there is a short circuit in the cable, the problem will still be there.
Have you tried a new filter.
The WAN port is for connecting to a modem. The phone line needs to be connected to the DSL port.
