Infinity2 speed issues and unstable

Hello,

I have had BT infinity installed  24th Novemberand after 4 visits by Openreach my line issues and Broadband speed seemed to have been resolved so on 24th December I had a clear line and Router reported DL fo 29MBs and UL of 5MBs. on 26th December after 2 great days of movie streaming and connectivity being Ok for all our browsing it was totally unusable but 27th everything back Ok and 5 great days of stability, followed by 1 unusable day and then 6 OK days. I have had my router switched off all day today after 3 days of unstable/unuseable service and it seems now to be more stable. On reaing nother users post I phoned 17070 option 2 and to my surprise had a very noisy line ( like we used to have ), I let the quiet line test cycle through a few times and after the 3rd test the noise had all cleared up. I have since made 3 calls over 40 minutes and all ow clear... So there is no issue with the line at present and the unstable behaviour has now seemed to have sorted itself ! My router is currently showing 11.1 MBs in DL and 3.14 in UL. My speed test are on multiple devices to different locations and  uing ookla , windows speet test and BT wholesale in a reasonable area for me to see on general over the air and cable that I am capable of getting quite near these router synch speeds ( after disabling the hubs Smart Set up setting, this helped on day 1 get my ookla speeds to >20MB DL from 13MB originally even though the router synch speed was 29.5... ). I have also a very basic set up in that I had a new line installed, I only have 1 socket in use which is the master with the double sockets plate. I also have a fixed ethernet connetion to my TV that I stream to ( this has been awful and unusable for the last 4 days ) as this negates all the usual its an issue within your house sir...... I would consider our household extremely rare users of the telephone due to the 18 month issues I had with Talktalk and would like support to 1 keep my line clean, fix the fault that seems to plague it ( very noisy, which I thought was finally cured but the test earlier showed noise on the line again after mutiple attempts to rid me of this, though this time the symptoms were different in that it was intermittently found and now 1 hour later has gone ! previously we could not rid ourselves of this only engineers on 2 visits seemed to clear it for a short time 17070 option 2 magic maybe !! )   2. Get me the infinity BB speed I know we are capable of getting. I woud just finally like to end my 18 months of pain and have a stable connection that has high speed to allow me to utilise the internet services I pay for on top of the BB I pay for. My neighbour is also experiencing issues with his Fibre upgrade and he is getting 15MBs DL and 784 UL (TalkTalk ). PE15 0TL area is having more than 1 problem and we are 800m or less from the exchange!   No need for me to buy a top end router yet as there are basic issues preventing stable service and super fast speeds. ( just tested 17070 again and no noise will test streaming now again DL still 11 and UL 3 at router )

Re: Infinity2 speed issues and unstable

Hi,

Broadband Router constantly throwing orange flashing lights and disconnecting for last 5 days. Speed being registered in the Home Hub 5 is dropping all the time. Today its now at 9MB DL and 2.63 MB UL last night after the line was clear I managed to stream Netflix to my TV from Ethernet cable ( it was unusable for i-player,amazon prime and Netflix for last 4 days ) Just now I had an orange broadband light flashing and after doing a 17070 option 2 I am hearing some noise again but after a few cycles of the test it clears up ) It was unuseable just now but after my quiet test cycle it seems to be able to stream again ! Not sure how the 17070 test cycle seems to clear the issue that affects the line.  Speed from router has dropped from 29.46MB DL and 5MB UL  to 9 DL and 2.6 UL. In between days of completely unusable internet when stable we can stream without issues. never make any phone calls really or rx them as we have had 18 month problem that was solved only on 28th December so I am not really sure if my line is clean or not, but from the 24Th December it seemed OK just since 7th January we have had major issues with stability of router ( resetting, flashing orange, goes blue then any device that browses for a bit will be forzen and the router drops and flashes orange again ).

Re: Infinity2 speed issues and unstable

It's obvious that DLM has capped your line to attempt to resolve disconnections of your line, but as you have a line fault this has failed.

You need an engineer visit to find and fix the fault.

Re: Infinity2 speed issues and unstable

Thanks Ray,

I will speak to the lady who is dealing with my BB connection and try to get resolution to my problem. The good thing for me is that I have no internal problem ( other than a HH5 issue  ). By the way I am seriously going to consider to replacing my HH5 for a new VDSL capable wirless router like the billion which I have seen has had good reviews for stability and wireless perfromance, any tips or advice in this area ?

Re: Infinity2 speed issues and unstable

I think that would help as I believe the HH5 has problems on less than perfect lines, so that when the modem resyncs this causes the router to reboot to try and keep the IP Profile up to date.

The only downside to the Billion (presume you mean Bipac8800nl) is that it doesn't have 5Ghz wireless.
