I literally just had Infinity installed and on the first boot up I was getting 23mb/7mb but now the upload has dropped to 1mb after I cleaned up the cabling (so had to turn off the hub)
Is this something for me to be worried about or will it go back up during the 10 day period?
Yeah, I was worried for a second. The engineer couldn't have been nicer though, and he wasn't even an acual openreach engineer. At first we had no DSL signal on the modem but he fixed it by changing the port at the box down the street.
I just turned off the hub, left it for a minute and turned it back on but my speed stayed the same. Do I need to unplug the modem as well? I'm hoping it will sort itself if there's nothing else I can try.
No, leave the modem alone. At least for the first 10 days it's vital, if you say give the DLM bad history now it will take ages to rise again in the future.
Just leave everything for a couple of days, then restart the HomeHub tomorrow or the day after.
It starts making history of the line as soon as it's plugged in and connected. It will use this information to try and settle the line, after 2/3 days you will see it set a normal IP profile as it think's that is where it will be best at. It's even more vital to not reset it before 2/3 days when you normally see it settle or at least close to after a couple of months you will.
Also restarting at night is stupid as well, you should restart during the day (90%) of time. As that is when less noise is present...
I understand your point though, but it will have 2 be testing at high speeds instead of low to be effective. You can't determine in which state of testing it is in though.
No, DLM starts on the second day. It's well-documented. This is to allow the engineer to fiddle with the line, connecting and disconnecting during installation without affecting the IP profile.
Link to the document, thanks.
I can tell you it does, I've seen first hand experince it matters.
