Re: Line dropping every couple of days

Go to solution

Just logged into my account and ran diagnostics for the Landline as girlfriend told me there was no dial tone.

It's found a fault external to our building apparently and they'll send an engineer. No appointment needed as it's not within the house.

Shall see where this goes then!

Re: Line dropping every couple of days

Engineer came out, couldn't find a fault outside of the property but said he detected a fault 53ft down the line. Get no dial tone when connected to the test socket, ordered another phone to test with (because I don't want to be charged £130 for a fauly phone!) and then will call BT back to arrange for an appointment again.

Text the engineer and he reckons it's somewhere between the junction box and the master socket.

My broandband speed is always  about 50 Mb/s as I live fairly close to the exchange  , it always tests "good" but my browsing speed is very often really slow and laggy . my CPU use is about 5% and the PC is connected to the smart hub 6 with a CAT5 cable

Engineer been, fixed the phone fault.

Noise margins gone up, speeds improved?

Despite the fact the noise margin is very high? In earlier post you said 6 is normal.

Re: Line dropping every couple of days

The noise margin is high because you have some 'head room' , you are syncing at maximum speed but your possible speed is beyond the Infinity2 cap.

If you could sync at 90M your noise margin would be 6dB.

The NMs can't go any lower. Both Down & Up sync speeds are hitting their 80/20 Meg caps, so the NM has to rise.

I see, thanks for clearing that up!

Is there any good technical explainer online I can read up on?
