Re: List of Routers to replace Home Hub 3.

The HH5 is a combined modem/router. To replace it, you'll need either a modem and a router, or another combined modem/router.

The modem must support VDSL2.

Re: List of Routers to replace Home Hub 3.

I know Broadbandbuyer sell a range of modems and modem/routers so you could perhaps search Google for

broadbandbuyer vdsl modem/router

Re: List of Routers to replace Home Hub 3.

If you buy a VDSL modem such as the ECI Focus or the Huawei HG612, you can plug it into the HH5 and use the HH5 as a router.

Re: List of Routers to replace Home Hub 3.

So I got me a white open reach box and a Netgear WND3300

The internet works.

BUT

I'm hard wired into the router and my speeds have dropped.

I'm on infinity 2 - 76mbit down / 19mbit up

With the HH5 I was getting exactly that all day every day.

When I first ran speed test after replacing HH5 I got those speeds.

Now I'm getting 60mbit/11mbit (Inoticed steam was maxing out at 5.8MB/sec insead of the usal 9MB/sec

Is the White box to blame?

Is the old netgear to blame?

Is this just bad timing and I've swapped routers just when a load of new people have got infinty on the same exchange and are using it loads?

I've changed routers because the HH5 can't handle streaming 1080p. It has a good try but chokes after a while. No such problem with the old netgear I'm using which doesn't even have gigabit ports. Apparently it can only do 85mbit through the lan ports but that is enough.

I thought I'd ask here as I can't trouble shoot the white box and netgear seperately.

Help please and thankyou

Re: List of Routers to replace Home Hub 3.

In order to rule out the Netgear as potentially being the device responsible for your speed loss, you can connect the Openreach modem directly to the PC and see if the speed improves.

To do that follow these steps:

Step 1: Remove the Netgear from the modem cable

Step2: Connect your pc/laptop to the modem via the cable instead

Step3: Open network and sharing centre on windows and click set up a new connection or network

Step4: Connect to the internet then click make a new connection Broadband PPPoE

Step5: Username bthomehub@btbroadband.com and the password as BT

Step6: connect, If it doesn't,keep pressing try again until it does.

However, please note that this will stop any other access apart from the PC

Re: List of Routers to replace Home Hub 3.

turns out the router is doing something to slow things down. (although it speeds up file transfer over the network compared to HH5 it slows down internet to my main PC)
