Loss of about 20mb downstream over night

Hi All,

I was experiencing some issues over the last couple of days in regards to line drops so i contacted BT to report it. Initially, i was using the home hub 3 however they asked me to install the home hub 5 i recieved when i moved home so i did. They also mentioned that they've 'done some fixes' to my line and everything should now be ok.

Re: Loss of about 20mb downstream over night

Can you use this speed tester then carry out the further diagnostics and post back a screen shot of all the results including your IP profile for up and down. This test must be done with a wired connection.

Re: Loss of about 20mb downstream over night

The drops in your connection have cause DLM to increase your noise margin to offer some additional protection to try and combat whatever it was that was causing the drops. If thr hub was the problem and the line remains stable with the new router, DLM will allow the noise margin to drop and the speed to increase. Be aware that this can take a couple of weeks to happen though.

You're possibly on the 37-74meg downstream band and the 0.128-10meg band for the upstream due to the disconnections.

Again, this will be removed if your line remains stable but as before, could take a few weeks.

John - I assume the title loss of 20meg is relating to the difference in max attainable speed

Re: Loss of about 20mb downstream over night

Thankyou both for the posts.

Results of the test is below:

Download Speed: 66.9

Upload Speed: 8.9

Latency: 20ms

That's already different to earlier today. Initially i was getting around 75mb and this was constant 24/7 uptime for about 3 weeks. Last night it was at about 45mb. this morning 55mb and now 66mb.

I presume it's what Webby was saying and it should balance itself out over time?

Yeah. Give is a few weeks and providing the connection is stable, the speed will return.
