MK2 faceplate is faulty - what’s my best option?

Hi guys, my internet was cutting out very regularly, but having taken off the face plate of my mk2 socket and plugged a micro filter directly into the internal socket it’s been fine.

It seems like BT want to charge £129 to fix it which seems pretty pricey. I’m tempted to replace it but I’m also worried that the actual internal wiring is screwed and I have no idea how to replace that...

If I did just replace the box, should I replace it like for like with another mk2, or can I get one of the newer mk5s?

Also, other than aesthetics, is there any disadvantage to just disconnecting the cables, taking off the face plate and just using the internal socket with a micro filter like I’m doing now? Thanks 🙂
