Re: Many IGMP join received for group logs

I believe they are something to do with the multicast that bt uses for bt tv. Even if you don’t use bt tv you will still see it in the logs. I have pages of IGMP myself normally ever 2 minuets it’s doing something. I don’t think it’s anything to worry about.

Maybe come morning when the more knowledgeable members are around they will confirm for you. I recall something not long ago about google chromecast doing something similar if you use that, though I thought google had now fixed that issue.

Re: Many IGMP join received for group logs

As @Zombie has stated it is multicast causing this and is perfectly normal.

As shown there are 6 IGMP messages created. Consider them similar to keep alive requests that maintain wireless connection between router and device.

Every hub recieves a create group request which then sends a create group repy.

If BT TV is in use Then a join group request followed by a join group reply would follow.

If no BT TV then leave group request and reply would follow instead.

The final 2 messages are confirm group request followed by confirm group reply.

Re: Many IGMP join received for group logs

OK I think that makes sense.

I do not have BT TV.

I do see today that 1 of my devices (a pc) has given these lines when connected:

00:39:06, 15 Feb.

wl1:IGMP join received for group 239.255.255.253 on interface wl1

00:39:06, 15 Feb.

wl1:IGMP group 239.255.255.253 on interface wl1 started by 192.168.1.35

00:39:06, 15 Feb.

wl1:IGMP group 239.255.255.253 on interface wl1 by 192.168.1.35 requested

As I say, we do not have BT TV.

Do you know of any software or websites that would cause these entries.

Again, this is not an issue. I am just curious and learning from this.

Thanks again for your time and information.

Re: Many IGMP join received for group logs

Do you have a Chromecast? Suggestion on other posts is that these cause repeated IGMP requests.
