My max speed keeps lowering after every fault.

Go to solution

Hi all,

I have had fibre since January, I started off with speeds of 68mb download. I had a fault which was fixed thanks to the specialist team on this forum, my internet speed was a stable 62mb perfect very happy, no matter the time of day it never dropped.

Just recently starting early/mid July my internet would drop to 0.02mb download (ping would slightly increase upload would remain the same). It would do this without fail every half an hour lasting 2-3 mins. BT eventually identified the fault last week and it was in the exchange. It hasn't happened since. However, my max speed is now 53mb download it will not go over that and sometimes drops to the mid 40s albeit infrequently its usually a stable 53mb.

Does anyone know why after every fault my max speed decreases? I'm not sure I'm getting the speeds I'm paying for at the moment.

post hub stats

check for line noise. Dial 17070 option 2 should be silent and best with corded phone using test socket

enter phone number and post results remember delete number     http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/

@imjolly

As requested. I haven't got a corded phone to test for noise, there was a slight hum on the line but could be because it was a a cordless phone.

According to the stats your connection speed is slightly higher than attainable.  It is just below bottom of dslchecker range but above the handback speed so unlikely BT would do anything

a dull hum is normal on cordless phone

which exchange and cab are you on as you deleted from checker results

@imjolly  sorry for that! It's Balby exchange and cabinet 31.

I just find it strange the max speed has lowered with every fault. Guess there's nothing I can if I'm still in the parameters.

You are on a Huawei cab and provided you can keep a stable connection then after 10/14 days G.INP will be activated by the DLM which should give a boost to your connection speed and drop your noise margin to 3db. Just got to stay connected

Thanks for the information and your time in replying. I see I have been connected 9 days (kept rebooting the router when it dropped to 0.02mb) so hopefully this G. INP kicks in soon.
