Netgear Nighthawk X8 D5800 will not connect to BT infinity FTTC

Go to solution

Have upgraded to BT infinity, previous Broadband worked fine on Netgear kit, supplied Home Hub works fine, Netgear modem/router has WiFi but can't seem to connect to the internet,

Have tried various "fixes" but nothing working,

Have I invested in an expensive paperweight?

That device isn't a modem/router, it is just a router. You will need a separate Openreach modem if you intend to use it.

The R8500 is a router only , the D8500 is a VDSL modem/router.

It is according to Netgear?

Their description is:

NETGEAR D8500-100EUS Nighthawk X8 AC5300 Tri-Band Quad Stream Wi-Fi VDSL/ADSL Modem Router for Phone Line Connections (BT Infinity, You View, Talk Talk, EE, Plusnet Fibre) (Amazon Echo Enabled)

And the tech spec leaflet that comes with the product states "AC5300 WIFI VDSL/ADSL Modem Router ?

If I'm wrong and all I need is an openrach box that woudl be great

Have you set the username & password correctly to bthomehub@btbroadband.com and pw to anything?

I would guess that there's is a smart setup process that should set most of the broadband options for you but the username & password is often not set correctly.

Netgear aren't too good with BT TV subscription channels generally and support for IPv6 is lacking.

Our posts probably crossed, @TimCurtis is correct, it is a VDSL modem/router. I googled D5800 and it returned R5800 results.

Have you entered username of bthomehub@btbroadband.com and password BT?

@licquorice

Indeed they did. Google gave me the R8500 first as well so initilally my thought was the same as yours.

Yes, tried it last night and no success, I also checked that this router supports IPV6 and apparently it does.

Getting frustrated by this.

When I ran the set up process from the Netgear site it reports success for internet and WIFI but when I tried to open Google it was unable to connect, very very odd.

I also tried the setup process in OSX Sierra (I have a Mac) and it was asking me for PPPoe info that I had no idea about?

Thanks for taking the time to answer, much appreciated

Can you post some screenshots of the setup pages and we should be able to advise what needs to be filled in where.
