Ongoing speed variances...very frustrating

Go to solution

BT Infinity 2, Home Hub 5. Powerline adapters.

For ages I got 35mbps down and 5mbps up. Two months ago HH reset and then got 27 down and .475 mbps up. S/N read 14.00/6.00. Was always approx 6 and 6. Every so often HH resets and often up speed goes back up tp approx 5mbps but down stays approx 27mbps. This has been happening for weeks. Sometimes I think I can hear noise on the line. Now plugged into test socket in master socket to get best possible result, but still it goes up and down as before. Have contacted BT but they can't/ won't help. Have kept a record of HH stats. below is a sample, but is representative of many I have kept.

Very frustrating. I want to get it fixed. Is the problem with BT? I have no extentions and am now plugged into test socket in master socket with filter.

What can I do? Any help very appreciated.

John

If you try a quiet line test with a corded phone  (17070 option 2) and hear any noise then you need to report a line fault, do not mention broadband.

Once the line fault is sorted out then your BB should return to normal.

Your "Clean" range from the checker is a download of 19.7 - 28Mbps so even though your HH5 reports you line can support more I doubt if BT will do anything about it.

As you think you can sometimes hear noise on the line this would affect you Broadband which is why I suggested trying a quiet line test.

If there is noise you MUST get the line fault repaired before anything else.
