Hi all,
First post, so be gentle.
My broadband went down today, which is a rarish occurrence. It would then come backup for about a minute and then go again. This continued all afternoon from about 3pm. I have gfast and use an mt992 modem into my own router. I've been using this setup for about 2 months and it has been reasonably stable up until this point. The router does log that it disconnects from the wan every so often, but this is usually in the dead of night, so I pay little notice to it. Anyway, after lots of resetting of the modem I decided to plug back in the old BT smart hub. It took a while to start up, but once it did I've had a solid connection all evening.
I'm trying to workout what might have happened. Had the mt992 just decided to die? Or have BT changed something so my mt992 doesn't communicate correctly, but the smart hub does?
I'll preempt the question: no, I don't have to use my own router, but I prefer to. So using the smart hub is not a massive hardship, I just prefer not to.
Any ideas on what may have changed would be much appreciated.
Cheers
If your BT hub works as expected then sounds like you have modem problem
Thanks. I guess I'll get another and give that a go.
Before you do, see if you have another AC adapter to try. Most consumer networking kit runs off 12V, so see if you have an old router kicking around. Then just a case of matching the power jack & current rating. More mA than the original is fine but can't be less. If the SH isn't a v2 that might fit.
