and confused as to why I'd need to.
It may only be a short term problem.
Here is an explanation of something called prefetching which can affect your page loading.
I would be surprised if it didn't affect Windows as well but as you are using a MacBook Pro and I assumed Safari like me then this may give an explanation.
Also, my statement that mine was OK is false, it's playing up again.

For the technically minded I ran Google "namebench" on my Macbook Pro and here are the results:
|BT 30 GB|
Tested DNS Servers
|220.127.116.11||BT 30 GB||bcn.customer.bt.net||79.22||10.0%||14.0||1298.4||0||3|
|18.104.22.168||Google Public DNS-2||google-public-dns-b.google.com||534.79||-83.7%||25.1||3500.0||32||7|
Google is slower than OpenDNS
I presume the reason the BT DNS's are quicker is because they are local rather than worldwide.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've added Open DNS settings as suggested. Does it now default to them? I seem to have lost the HH4 setting now and I didn't write it down before adding the Open ones. Does that matter?
Too nervous to try anything re prefetching, but did read the mac article, thanks. It says don't attempt if you're clueless, which I am.
I'll check back here if it continues, or if there's any news on BT working on this issue. My download speed on speedtest is nearly 60mbps so it's doubly frustrating when pages don't load or take a minute to do so. Reminds me of the bad old days of dial up.
Yes, use mostly Safari but also FF and it's the same on both. Haven't tried Chrome. And it's way worse on the iPad. So is the speed - 40meg as opposed to 60 on the macbook pro. Can I use Open DNS on the iPad and how? thank you!
Yes, you can use it on all your devices, it's in the network settings of the device.
I have now tried all the suggestions on this thread plus I have removed the Flash plugin and the problem still exists.
It happens with BT DNS
It happens with Google DNS
It happens with OpenDNS
It happens with/without the flash plugin
It happens with/without prefetching enabled
I have restarted router(s), it still happens.
I have rebuilt caches, it still happens
I have done permissions repair, it still happens
I have zapped the pram, it still happens
I have reinstalled Safari, it still happens.
I am just about to apply Apple's last Combo Update to Mountain Lion to see if that works.
Has anyone solved it?
All the best
I am currently typing this with Firefox for Mac and it does not seem to have the problem.
Will keep testing.
