I have a similar problem with the smart hub 2.
The wi-fi becomes progressively worse over time.
Usually ends with only 5GHz band working.
2.4GHz obviously still sends beacon frames but is unable to complete the wi-fi connection sequence.
BT did promise me a new router but it hasn't arrived.
Note that my previous FTTC broadband with a smart hub 1 was extremely good and very reliable. The migration to FTTP with a smart hub 2 is a big step backwards
