Requesting OpenReach to relocate dropline to house.

It seems impossible to use MyBT to ask BT to request OpenReach to relocate their dropwire bracket that is fixed to my rotten window frame which is due to be replaced,

The question is not covered in any of the MyBT scenarios, and pitching it via a ‘fault’ or ‘dangerous fitting’ route quickly gets the plug pulled.

I imagine a DIY solution is illegal - so how’s it done?

this is a customer help customer community forum and your post does not go to BT  you need to contact CS 03301234150 and request the move of openreach cable - this may be chargeable

My query also relates to many attempts to get through on 150. The system channels you down the same inappropriate pathways. I did eventually manage to speak to someone who could not help, and my call was dropped.

If it is dangerous, you could try reporting it here:

but I suspect Openreach will say you have to report it through your ISP.  You don't say if BT are your ISP but just so you are aware, BT and Openreach are separate companies.  This forum has no direct contact with Openreach anymore than does, say, Sky.

Thanks but what you suggest is one of the rabbit holes I have already crawled though only to have the plug pulled when it was clear there was no immediate danger. Chatbot obvs.

If FTTP is available then the simplest solution would be to upgrade to FTTP , then the old copper dropwire is redundant and removed , but if FTTP isn’t available, unfortunately you have already explored both possibilities, the proper way is a relocation of the dropwire that you would pay  for , but getting the appropriate order raised isn’t going to be easy , the option to report a dangerous wire is on the Openreach site , that shouldn’t be auto cancelled but a visit could result in OR saying it’s not dangerous.

It seems hard to believe that a dropwire bracket would be attached to a window frame , although some things that were OK in the past are unacceptable today , I doubt a bracket on a window frame has ever been acceptable.

The least recommended approach would be to damage the wire yourself and report a fault , the new wire wouldn’t be using the bracket on the window but to get a tech to visit you probably would need to damage sufficient to make  your broadband unusable .

Ha. I don't know what FTTP is or what sort of wire mine is apart from it’s black! There has been a lot of fibre work in Looe recently and the pole it comes from was only recently replaced.
Yes, daft screwing a stand-off bracket to a window frame, but that will be down to the GPO - General Post Office early in the last century I think.

If it shows WBC FTTP as available, then getting FTTP installed to replace the copper pair service makes the copper wire redundant, and this removes your window replacement issue in the process as the copper wire is taken down , the fibre cable can’t use the bracket on the window frame , the installer will provide a new bracket somewhere else on the property for the fibre dropwire
