Re: Slow speeds on infinity

If the wholesale speed checker is reporting high speeds,27mbs but when I try and download anything on laptop by wired connection (no other devices connected) I get very low speeds.

Is this is sign of congestion?

Re: Slow speeds on infinity

Is the laptop connected directly to the home hub with an Ethernet cable?

The wholesale speed checker would be correct. What are you trying to download, that is showing a low speed?

It could be the site you are downloading from which is slow?

What download speed is it showing?

Re: Slow speeds on infinity

Yes connected by Ethernet. It was firstly a test file from the site listing earlier in the thread.
Then also just a program from another website
Also ran several other speed check programs
And then also tried to download chrome

Was that 1-3 MB/s?

Downloads on Windows computers are expressed as megaBYTES/S

3MB/s  =  24Mbs/S (megabits)/S  which is very close to the BT Speedtester results.

Then that is giving you the wrong result.

The BT Wholesale tester result is the only one that BT will accept, as it tests at the last point before it reaches the core of the Internet.

Re: Slow speeds on infinity

Hi Keith, I accept that bt speed test gives that reading, but I can’t physically download anything anywhere that speed. Where do you think the problem lies?
Is it possible that when I want more data down then line than a Speedtest uses, ie downloading an app or program, that the data gets congested and slows right down?
