Smarthub 2 loses connection when editing on dashboard, not mobile

I've had a bit of a nightmare with a new Smarthub 2 installation.

The main issue (I will post others in future) is that I managed to change my network name and password fine via the mobile app. It all worked OK (not great, but OK and stable) until ...

I needed to connect some devices that required the 2.4GHz network. I followed some advice in this community to log into the admin dashboard on my computer to turn off the 5GHz network to force the new connections. That seemed fine until ...

I then turned the 5GHz back on and saved the changes. At this point, the connection kept dropping. The hub showed a steady blue light, but my connection to it kept dropping every few seconds. Nothing was working. I contacted support but all we managed to do was to reset to factory settings.

Once we did that, all worked fine, until I logged back into the admin dashboard to change the name again. This time I had turned OFF all the new devices, but when I saved the changes, it started disconnecting again so I had to reset to factory once more.

Overnight it occurred to me that I had made the original changes to the name via the app, so I did that again this morning, and it is all working fine. I have even managed to turn on the speakers and plugs that connect to the 2.4GHz network and they are also working fine.

Has anyone else experienced issues with amending settings via the admin dashboard as opposed to the myBT app?

I'm posting here in part as a report, but also as an aide-memoire as I have already complained about the issues but did so before the latest changes, so I hope to share this with them once we are in touch again.

Re: Smarthub 2 loses connection when editing on dashboard, not mobile

when I go to admin pages to change the router SSID and wifi password I always use an ethernet connected device because using a wifi (mobile) device will immediately drop internet connection after I save the changes.  you do not need to be connected to the internet when using ethernet cable to router

Re: Smarthub 2 loses connection when editing on dashboard, not mobile

Thanks - maybe good advice in general, though none of my laptops have ethernet ports any more, so that is not straightforward (and why do BT supply extension disks that require ethernet connections to install, but they don't supply the cords??).

Whilst it is a bit of an issue in theory, in practice you are connected when you initiate the change and save it, and then can connect to the new name instead.

The issue was not that the new name and password did not stick, it was that it connected, then after a few seconds, dropped again, then took 5-10 seconds to establish a new connection, and then repeat the process. I wondered whether it was that it had too many connections (any ideas what the limit is?) but it was only around 12 or 13 at the time, so I doubt it was the issue.

The technician mentioned 'congestion' but I can't believe that either. I just think that saving changes this way put the firmware in some sort of update loop on the device that was not being resolved.

Interestingly the hub didn't actually reboot during the save process, but even a forced reboot did not help.
