Re: Speed jump

Infinity 2 speeds will not be increasing, Openreach offer 80/20 as the maximum speed on VDSL.

I suspect Infinity will become one package soon, like ADSL is, in that customers who can only get 2meg still pay the same price as those who can get 15meg.

Whether BT will still offer 2 packages with different benefits remains to seen.

If it does become a single package I bet it is offerred at current Infinity 2 rates which increases the cost for all those on infinity 1 , a stealthy way to increase Bt's revenue and profits.

It's possible that BT may upgrade Infinity 2 customers to 152Mb on G.fast. This would also benefit Openreach in encouraging more suppliers to offer the service.

We can only wait and see.

Re: Speed jump

Not likely, given such a small percentage of customers will a) have access to G.fast early on, and b) be close enough to make much of a difference.

Re: Speed jump

Yes, only 10 million (homes passed) within 3 years. Interestingly enough the 2 tiers for G.fast will be upto 160Mb and 330Mb and Openreach have just started offering a 160 tier on FTTP. Can't be a coincidence.

Re: Speed jump

Would be nice to get an official statement from bt of what the plan is, as they obviously know what direction they are going with infinity and their future plans.

Re: Speed jump

They can't make an official statement until Openreach actually have it available.

As regards G.fast we already know that is being rolled out and aims at 10M homes passed by 2020 with FTTP having 2M homes passed.

Openreach are presently also in consultaion for a bigger FTTP rollout which would aim at 10M homes passed by 2025.

LRVDSL is also on the table.
