Speed lower than estimated

I had BT Infinity installed 22 days ago and had an estimate of 60-79Mbps and an upload estimate of 19-20Mbps. Since day one I have only ever been able to obtain 54Mbps download and an upload of 7.5Mbps.

I was advised the HH5 causes issues and I should use a modem, so I got an Openreach Modem and I've left that on now for 12 days and still no improvement.

The results from https://www.dslchecker.bt.com are:

FTTC Range A (Clean)79.5602019.6--Available
FTTC Range B (Impacted)70.943.82013.9--Available

WBC ADSL 2+Up to 7.5--6.5 to 8.5Available
WBC ADSL 2+ Annex MUp to 7.5Up to 16.5 to 8.5Available
ADSL MaxUp to 5.5--4.5 to 8Available
WBC Fixed Rate2----Available
Fixed Rate2----Available
Other Offerings
FTTP on Demand33030--Available

Using the BT speed test, my IP Profiles are: 57.42Mbps download and 20Mbps upload but the speeds obtained were 56.4Mbps download and 7.2Mbps upload.

Would anyone suggest there is an issue or is this as fast as it will go? A big miss on the upload estimate, even on impacted.

Re: Speed lower than estimated

Hard to say without seeing your line stats reported by the modem, including noise margin.

Re: Speed lower than estimated

I could always pop on the hub 5 quickly to take a look if that would help 🙂

Re: Speed lower than estimated

Yes it would. If you can post the line stats reported in Troubleshooting/Helpdesk, lines 1-13 please?

If changing modems around, always power them off first rather than just disconnecting the phone wires to them.  That reduces the risk of DLM seeing it as a possible fault.  If you've got an appropriate interface into the modem, disconnect the VDSL connection using that interface.

I noticed that advice from somewhere before so that is what I did, power off first 🙂

Re: Speed lower than estimated

Yes, looks like noise is seriously affecting your connection which may well be a dodgy install.

Currently your upload is running as fast as possible without some sort of intervention by an engineer to fix whatever problems there are with your install.

Re: Speed lower than estimated

Quiet line test is crystal, forgot to mention I tested that.

I have spoken to BT on the phone but they said all is fine. Not sure what to do next because as we know, the call centre is pretty much useless when you talk technical to them.

Re: Speed lower than estimated

Yeah, you may as well be speaking to a foreign country.

Is there any problem with your installation?

Is the line from a pole or underground?

Is there any boxes or filters before the master?

Do you have extensions? alarms? sky boxes?

Is the modem on a data extension?

Did you have ADSL before, what was that like?

Stuff like that... 😉

Re: Speed lower than estimated

Is there any problem with your installation?

The master socket wasn't fitted correctly but that was fixed.

Is the line from a pole or underground?

Pole but the line from the pole serves 6 properties in this block.

Is there any boxes or filters before the master?

There is what seems to be a junction box outside near the roof where 6 lines come out of that.

Do you have extensions? alarms? sky boxes?

None

Is the modem on a data extension?

Nope

Did you have ADSL before, what was that like?

only infinity at another property.
