Speed problems

Edit: I forgot to mention i have already power cycled both the modem and hub.

Hi,

I have been with BT on BT Infinity 2 for about 5 months now. When I first ordered, my speed was estimated to be 36/6 (and still is when I check availability on this number). When Infinity was installed, I was getting 26/3 which I wasn't very happy with and was told it would increase over time by BT support. After a few days my speeds dropped to around 21/3 so I contacted support again (this was after the supposed 10 day trial period) and recieved a phone call from the engineer team.  He explained that this cannot be treat as a fault unless my speed drops to 50% or below of my original estimate. Well now it has.

Heres the results from a bt speed test..

And heres the results of a tracert to bbc.co.uk

Ive always had low speeds and problems on this line for some reason. A few houses at either side of me are estimated more in the range of 60mbs. Theres also a green cabinet about 350meters to the right of my house on the same road and another green cabinet on the main road outside of the estate.

Links with routes from my house to the cabinets

I would appreciate it if this could be looked into. Cheers!

Re: Speed problems

Those pings actually indicate that you're on fastpath.

How are you connecting wireless or with wired?

Guessing wired looking at the response time to the hub but you know. 😛

Re: Speed problems

Yes I'm using a wired connection.

What is fastpath and why would I be on it?:o

Fastpath is a setting that skips detection of packets mainly and various other things increasing response times.

The usual setting is Interleaving which would give responses of around 28 on your first ping and about double the rates of the rest of them. You need a stable line for the DLM to switch you on to FastPath so maybe it's a problem with the ports on the Hub which are very common.

Have you tried a different ethernet cable?

Re: Speed problems

Also, i have noticed online games seem to be having problems with missing packets. Bullets not landing, latency between clicking and the weapon actually firing and generally unreliable performance all while having a ping around 20-30

Re: Speed problems

Sounds more like hitboxes/net settings and low FPS.

Re: Speed problems

Nope. These problems occurred at the same time as my speed problems.

So does this mean an engineer might actually come out and have a looksie? That would be awesome, finally!

Going to contact them now, thanks!
