Sudden, persistent sync drop.

Hi all,

I've been connected with infinity1 for a year now, and it's largely been great.  I took the offer of getting my connection regraded to 55mbit (upstream about 8.9) in April (at the cost of a contract extension, but since all had been well, no biggy I thought)

All of sudden 2 weeks ago, the router dropped the connection and resynced at 42/6.  I left it alone for a week to see if it was just some temporary line glitch, but no, it remained.  So rebooted the router manually.  Nope, same sync.  I raised the issue in the support chat, and after wading through all the usual wifi stuff (We're not talking in-house connection, after all) they agreed to "refresh my line"

after 3 days nothing had happened (no router resyncs) - so I scheduled a router reboot for 5am the following day.

Router resynced 55/7.9 - Good enough!  Then dropped again to 42/6 after about an hour.  I scheduled another reboot the following day, and almost the same thing happened.  I noticed something yesterday, during the midle of the day (about 1230) the SNR Margin on the downstream leapt from 6.5 to 14.0, so leaving it until 1630 - I rebooted the router.

Sync came back 55/8, SNRM 6.8.. until just after 6pm, when this happened:

Wed 14 Sep 2016 18:19:40, Noise Margin (dB)= 6.2, Connection Speed (Kbps)= 55000, Upstream NM= 6.1, Upstream Sync= 8004
Wed 14 Sep 2016 18:19:55, Noise Margin (dB)= -0.7, Connection Speed (Kbps)= 55000, Upstream NM= 5.9, Upstream Sync= 8004
Wed 14 Sep 2016 18:20:10, Noise Margin (dB)= -2.9, Connection Speed (Kbps)= 55000, Upstream NM= 4.7, Upstream Sync= 8004
Wed 14 Sep 2016 18:20:25, Noise Margin (dB)= , Connection Speed (Kbps)= 0, Upstream NM= , Upstream Sync= 0
Wed 14 Sep 2016 18:20:40, Noise Margin (dB)= , Connection Speed (Kbps)= 0, Upstream NM= , Upstream Sync= 0
Wed 14 Sep 2016 18:20:55, Noise Margin (dB)= 6.4, Connection Speed (Kbps)= 42156, Upstream NM= 6.1, Upstream Sync= 6801

This is proving quite frustrating since 1: I got myself in an extended contract for the jump to 55, and 2: I rely quite heavily on the upstream, and the difference between 8 and 6 makes a big difference for me.

Anyone have any idea what might be going on here?

I've been running DSLstats for a couple of days to try and see what's going on.

P.S. Using Billion Bipac 8800NL router, HH5 used as WiFi access point only.
