Work has been completed in our street replacing the old lines with brand new high speed digital lines giving speeds of up to 500mbps.
I have the option of this upgrade offered by Sky Broadband but when i check with BT i am stuck with the same download speed i currently have.
How long does it take BT to get their act together and offer the same high speed as other providors?
City Fibre are also installing fibre networks and BT currently use Openreach. If it's a City Reach network, BT Retail won't run over it for obvious reasons.,
I don't see the "obvious reasons". OpenReach is a competitor to CityFibre but I see no reason why BT should not use CityFibre where OpenReach has not provided fibre. I'm in that position - waiting for FTTP from someone.
This presentation may give you a glimpse into the "altnet gold rush" and some of the factors on why a broadband provider may choose not to use that network. Basically a lot of technical development, resources, integrations, business and product modelling needed that take time to build out and cost.
The cables were laid by Cirtec on behalf of BT. I spoke to the engineers as they were fitting them.
What do you get when you use both the number check and address check ?
A very confusing message. Under products available on request i get FTTP and 330mbps downstream as available
Further down it tells me FTTP is not available, so I'm none the wiser.
FTTPod isn’t the same as native WBC FTTP , if the checker shows ‘on demand’ FTTP only , then if you are prepared to pay for the network to be extended to your location ( and this usually is many thousands of ££’s) then you can have it ( but not from BT , other providers can arrange it ) , so what type of FTTP is shown ?
As far as the poster who questions why BT don’t use other providers networks if Openreach FTTP isn’t available , OR and BT are part of the same group, and although it may be possible for BT to use other network providers , it’s not likely to happen, why ‘help’ your competitors ?, ..plus many of these Alt Nets don’t offer wholesale access anyway and even if they do , it may be on terms that make no financial sense to BT Consumer and certainly won’t be on the regulated basis that OR have to offer access.
According to the link my cabinet is not a priority for high speed fibre, this despite the fact that Cirtec have been here for weeks laying the cables.
If i do a broadband check i can get speeds of 500mbps from Sky but just 30ish mbps from BT
There could be many reasons from BT Wholesale not having capacity or issue with cable link to data integrity issues on database.
Some things for you to try to help narrow down:
1) To double check the full fibre network is by Openreach and not an alternative network do a check again your address and neighbours at https://www.openreach.com/
2) via https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL Check against both address and phone line number (if with sky today then number check would probably show it can't find your number). Also do a UPRN address check.
3) via https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL check neighbouring addresses
