Unable to get FTTC even though neighbours have it

Go to solution

I have just moved to a new address (postcode SA9 2JU).

I checked on Open Reach availability checker and it says I can get FTTC here. I have also found my cabinet on the street that has a big sticker saying FTTC now available.

Anyway, I ordered Sky Superfast broadband and after putting it all through and my installation date passing, I called them only to be told they can't provide my with FTTC here. I then called Plusnet, Vodafone and EE and was told the same thing.

I then knocked on a few of my very close neighbours and found out two of them have FTTC with Sky!

Open Reach says we are due to have full fibre installed some time this month and there is a new pole just gone up.

But why would I not be able to get FTTC now? I'm quite confused. As it sounds like a me problem, could I get an engineer out to look at connection?

All advice greatly appreciated!

using the postcode it looks like there is a waiting list (cabinet full) for FTTC hence why not available

Picking a random address on that postcode shows that SoGEA ( FTTC without PSTN telephone ) is waiting list , in other words all the available ports in the cabinet are in use …..given the push towards FTTP , Openreach are not likely to upgrade FTTC cabinets unless it’s economically viable so all you can do is check periodically and hope for a port to become spare , via someone who gives up a port by cancelling their service, then get your order in .
As you are looking to use Sky you should be asking them , not asking here

I hear your point on asking here, although it's not necessarily Sky I'm looking for. I'll take anything at this point.

One follow up question if you have the time, when FTTP in rolled out here, does that usually come with an increased number of connections in the cabinet? Or will it still be a waiting list?

Thanks again for your help.

FTTP does not come from the cabinet and the nearest pole should have enough connections
