Upgrade broadband without increasing contract length

I'm a new and upcoming customer to BT.

I haven't recieved or activated my router yet, but I wanted to know if I'm able to upgrade my broadband speed without increasing my contract length, once it's up and running.

I'm a student and could really use faster WiFi but can't extend my contract more than 12 months.

any changes to your existing contract (upgrade) will result in new contract term
