Hi, apologies if this has been answered previously, I did have a look and could not find the answer.
I'm currently on the fibre 250 package and wish to upgrade, does BT send out another modem? if so, is it necessary?
The frustrating thing is setting up all of your devices again, ie Alexa, smart bulbs, and a hundred of the kid's gadgets! also, don't want the misses knowing I've upgraded 😉 many thanks, Darren.
Order placed for the Fibre 900 - took 2 days to get activated
Speed test taken while misses streaming from Amazon Prime, and 2 kids both using PS4 playing online.
Very happy 🙂
Is this test on wired or wireless im having issues with my fibre 900! My wired is fine 850mbps but my wireless is 300mbps...
Dont do speedtests wirelessly.
Always have a wired device, because wireless is affected by the signal strength, objects in the room, other electrical devices interfering etc etc And then limitation on the actual speed of wireless too depending on the standard used by the router etc.
Out of interest, How much is the 250 package, and then the 900 one ? I cannot view the packages at present on their site because of lock down and needing a new install (was on FTTC when our street came live)
Hi Macstabz, my 250 package was £49.99 and the new 900 is £10 more - £59.99, no brainer really for what I do.
PS Something can't be right with the wireless, I did my tests right next to the router - 802.11n should output at least 450mbps.
Just did some googling, depends on if you are using 2.4GHz or 5GHz - output and device itself, going to check my router settings and I'll post my findings.
Dont forget also it depends on if you are using Dual Band. Apple devices especially can throw a right paddy about 5Ghz and I know my wife's iPad didnt like dual band so had to split them as her speed crawled to a near stop.
But as far as any connections peed tests go, always use a RJ45 cable on a device with speeds up to 1000 off course.
Thank you for the info on pricing, and yeah that certainly seems to be a no brainer. I am wondering if the 900 is open tot he whole of the UK or only specific areas (for those capable of getting FTTP). Granted im currently paying £21, so its a bit of a jump for me, but hey the kids are killing our connection lol.
