VDSL speed has slowed considerably

Hi there,

I have a vdsl line which normally has speeds upto 80mbps – guaranteed 55mbps (i think). Everything was fine until three or so days ago when the download speed tanked to 4mbps and is now often less than 1mbps.

I raised a fault and have been told that, though no network issues had been found, they would keep an eye on the line for a few days.

Does anyone have any theories as to why this is happening?

For whatever reason, I cannot load the fault tracker page on the website or keep up-to-date with it in the MyBT app.

Happy to post the technical log if needed...

Thanks,

Alex

Re: VDSL speed has slowed considerably

in order for the forum members to help please can you post the stats from your router (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser) and if  HH5 then go to troubleshooting then helpdesk and if HH6/SH2 then advanced settings then technical log information .

Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

Can you run btspeedtester and then post results must be done with Ethernet connection

https://speedtest.btwholesale.com/

Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

which is at odds with everything else i've seen – here's what I got through the MyBT app for example:

Hope this helps!

Re: VDSL speed has slowed considerably

Would a Noise margin of 13.6 / 17.2 being something of concern?

Also, as an update, BT have decided that my Smart hub 2 is probably the cause of the issue and are sending me out a new one.

Re: VDSL speed has slowed considerably

your high noise margins are not a problem as that is due to your attainable being far higher than your connection speed and not due to line problems

did you run btspeedtester using an ethernet cable direct from hub to device

Re: VDSL speed has slowed considerably

Yeah I did last night – it was 50 down and 0 up.

I've just repeated it and it's 24.84 down and 0 up.

The test I've run via the MyBT app on my phone now shows 4.1 down and 19 up for what it's worth.
