Very low speed on Fibre Unlimited

Go to solution

Hi,

I recently upgraded to BT Fibre from BT Broadband. I have an old BT ‘ADSL v 1.0’ wall socket in my home. I am using the BT Smart Hub which came with my service and I’m receiving very low speeds (2 mbps down and 2 mbps up). This is actually a bit lower than I was getting with regular broadband. I realise the distance from the cabinet likely explains the low speed to some extent but it doesn’t seem like it should actually be slower than non-fibre service.

Below are; my most recent technical log from the hub, dslline checker result and a shot of my wall socket. I am on the DARLEY exchange. Any help would be much appreciated.

@wes_k

You are much too far away from the cabinet and you would be better reverting back to ADSL, as you are never going to get a faster speed on FTTC.

Did you check before you placed your order?

ADSL was showing 3.14Mbs

VDSL is showing 2.51Mbs.

We were told when we placed the order that we would get up to 15 mbps.

Unfortunately you appear to be a long way from the cabinet and as such it is quite likely that a VDSL (FTTC/fibre) service will be slower than an ADSL service from the exchange, speed decreases extremely sharply with distance for VDSL.

When DLM has had a chance to analyse your line you may get a slight increase in speed but don't expect to get anything much faster than 3M

Then you were misled, that is never going to happen.

You need to complain, and ask to be put back on ADSL.

If its less than 14 days since you were changed over, then you can simply cancel the upgrade, and revert back.

The funny thing is that they gave us a lower price for Fibre than we were paying for broadband. So I’m not sure I want to revert back.

Clearly your choice, but ADSL is likely to be more stable than VDSL at that distance.

That would only be until the end of the contract, then the price will go up. and you will be paying more than you would have been for ADSL.

You were probably out of contract for ADSL, and may have been able to renegotiate a lower renewal price.

What I would say, is that as you are not getting the promised speed, you should ask for the same price reduction for reverting back to ADSL.

Alternatively you could complain that you are not getting the promised speed, and see what BT offer.
