Why does my Line Speed Drop?

Go to solution

I've had Infinity 52MB for 3 weeks now.  Most times I've had a stable 52MB connection however I've noticed drops in speed.  I have a new build property so wiring/connections should be fairly new.

I often have an Attainable Rate of 50148 and a Line Rate of 51310.

This morning it dropped to an AR of 23008 and LR of 30314.

Right now, some 11 hours later, it's at an AR of 38436 and LR of 28538.

Can someone please explain what is going on here?  System up time is 12 days so it's not rebooted or anything.

I have scheduled downloads/uploads which run through the night (betweem 2 and 6am).  Would this have an effect on any DLM at all?

Scheduled uploads/downloads will have no effect on DLM. Is it just this weekend you've noticed the problem or does it happen throughout the week?

Had a bit of a wobble maybe 10 days ago but it sorted itself out. So far it's just this weekend...

if you have a Homehub 5 can you also post the stats from 1-12 by logging onto the homehub management pages then troubleshooting > helpdesk. http://bthomehub.home/

The stats for the Home Hub 6 can be found on the Information page from http://192.168.1.254 then Advanced Settings -> Technical Log.

Can you run this checker and post back a screen shot of the results. Make sure you delete your phone number before posting.

Can you use this speed tester then carry out the further diagnostics and post back a screen shot of all the results including your IP profile for up and down. This test must be done with a wired connection.

Have you tried the quiet line test dial 17070 option 2 you should hear no noise if you can hear noise then it needs reporting to BT faults on 151 with no mention of broadband in the call

Ok will do thanks.

@john46 - I don't have the HH5 or 6. I am using the HG612. I also don't have a landline phone 🙂

If I were you I'd go to a well known catalogue store and get a phone for abour £5. You don't have to use it but having it connected can make a world of difference.

I'd ring it every couple of months too as it helps clear high resistance joints
