Will my line installation be ok for Infinity 2?

Our local cabinets have just gone live with FTTC. Luckily I am only 200m from the cabinet. However I am concerend about the state of my line. It is fed via overhead pole. The line which was installed late 1950's early 60's, is attached to the front right corner of the house, goes right across the front, along the side, and enters via the back door. It is connected to a old bakelite surge supressor box approx 4.5 x 2.5 x 2.5 inches, with a separate earth wire attached, and from there to a small oval shaped junction box (type 52A?). This feeds a (working) old 26 style bakelite bell repeater, and two extension sockets. Presumably the junction box behaves as the master point.

What changes are necessary to use this with Infinity 2? At present it works well on ADSL+ with microfilters and phones  in each of the two extension sockets.

hi

enter your phone number on this link and run it. then post a screen shot. it will give readings of what speeds you are likely to receive.

Re: Will my line installation be ok for Infinity 2?

Done that and it says:
Clean Range A Down high/low 80/80
Up high/low 220/20
Impacted Range B Down high/low 80/70.5
up high/low 20/19

So that seems fine.. I was concerned whether the antiquated setup would impact, and also, where the installation engineer might fit a master socket, since there isn't a socket at present.

Re: Will my line installation be ok for Infinity 2?

Hi there and welcome.

If your telephone sockets are fed from the 52A then from your description it sounds like your 'star wired'

Whilst this might not cause an issue it's known to cause problems.

On the day of installation If you get a visit from openreach, they should be able to sort it without a problem, however if a subbie arrives then all they'll probably do is fit an NTE/SSFP where your hub currently connects to and leave.

Best advice, when you order - order a new line which should (can't promise) mean that they send openreach and not kelly's or quinns.

Any chance of some photos where the line meets the house and onward?

Would I be charged extra for the line if I did this?

I wonder if there's one wire or two from the corner of the house?

There's one wire but there is also an earth wire from the suppressor box, going back outside then down to the ground. Right at the top of the picture is the wire from the junction box which goes round the door frame then off to the socket. There is also a mains cable from the switch to an external light.
